6 In 10 Jersey Adults Fully Vaccinated

Six in ten Jersey adults are now fully vaccinated against coronavirus.

93% of over 50s have had both jabs, while 81% of all over 18s have had at least one dose.

More than half of 18 to 29-year-olds and 87% of over 30s have also had their first jab.

As of Sunday 27 June - 70,335 first doses and 52,595 second doses had been administered.

Jersey has a dose per 100 in the population rate of 114.04. That is just behind England on 114.93.

95% of care home residents, 98% of care home staff, and 87% of high-risk islanders are fully vaccinated.

"These statistics show we are getting closer to nearly all adult Islanders having had at least one dose. I urge those Islanders who have not booked their first appointment to do so before 11 July so that they are guaranteed to be fully vaccinated by mid-August. This is particularly important for those Islanders who are looking forward to stand-up drinking and returning to nightclubs once they reopen.

"Additionally, I encourage those Islanders aged over 50 who have not yet been vaccinated to book an appointment, as they are at a higher-risk of developing complications if they become unwell with the virus." - Deputy Richard Renouf, Health Minister.

The head of Jersey's vaccine programme says the interim advice on booster covid vaccines in the autumn doesn't give all the answers, but it does allow them to plan for it.

The JCVI says, should a booster be needed, a third dose should only be offered to the most vulnerable first - starting from September to protect them ahead of the winter period.

Becky Sherrington says there still aren't details on which vaccines should be given and when, but this advice allows them to prepare.

"It is fantastic to see that approximately 93% of Islanders over 50 years old have received their second dose. This is a significant milestone for all Islanders and Jersey are leading the way internationally in our vaccinations rate. Although, as always, I would still encourage Islanders who have not yet had their first dose to book an appointment as soon as they can. We know that the vaccines will protect you from the ill effects of COVID-19.

"We also welcome the interim advice from the JCVI and continue to prepare for a potential booster programme in the Autumn. We continue to follow the advice provided from the JCVI and have been preparing operational models based on various potential scenarios. We will provide an update on this once we have further finalised details." - Becky Sherrington.

The Chief Minister says vaccine rates will be one of the metrics used when deciding whether to ease restrictions on 15 July.

The return of stand-up drinking and the reopening of nightclubs has been delayed for a third time, due to increasing Covid case rates.

64 new cases have been found in the last day, taking the active total up to 310.

11 cases were found in schools yesterday (30 June). Two go to JCG, four are pupils at Victoria College, four attend Beaulieu and the other goes to Highlands College.
