London man jailed for fraudulent purchases in Jersey worth over £10.5k

A man from London has been sentenced to 2 years and 3 months by Jersey's Royal Court for attempting to purchase goods worth over £10,722 from Jersey retailers, using stolen card information.

26-year-old Tasnimuzzaman Siddiquee travelled to the island from London, where he lives, on 17 May.

He had pre-ordered £10,722 worth of goods from three different Jersey electrical stores online using stolen card information.

Siddiquee visited the stores in person to collect them, doing so at two retailers before the police were alerted and arrested him at the third store on 21 May 2026.

When booked into police custody, Siddequee provided officers with false personal details in an attempt to conceal his identity.

Through enquiries conducted by investigators, his true identity was established, and he later admitted the offences.

All of the fraudulently obtained goods were successfully recovered by police, preventing any financial loss from the stolen purchases.

Detective Sergeant Dave Webster from the Joint Financial Crimes Unit said:

“This case demonstrates that Jersey is not a soft target for organised fraudsters who seek to exploit local businesses for financial gain.

"The defendant travelled to Jersey with the intention of committing criminal offences and profiting from stolen financial information.

"Thanks to the vigilance of the retailer and the prompt action taken by officers, he was arrested before he could complete further fraudulent transactions.

We welcome the sentence imposed by the Royal Court and we remain committed to identifying, investigating and prosecuting those who target businesses and members of our community."

The Joint Financial Crimes Unit encourages businesses to remain vigilant for suspicious transactions and to report any concerns to the Police at the earliest opportunity.
