How Guernsey is celebrating 80 years of Liberation

Events are going on across the island for the landmark anniversary of the end of the German occupation.

The main focus will be on St Peter Port this Liberation Day.

At 10.25am, an extra-large Military Parade containing 100 visiting military personnel will gather at the Cambridge Berth.

Her Royal Highness Princess Anne will inspect the Parade at 11am before they begin their march toward the Slaughterhouse.

At midday, a service at the town church will begin, led by the Dean of Guernsey, Very Reverend Tim Barker. Princess Anne will also give a reading.

At 1pm a 21 gun-salute will be fired from Castle Cornet.

Cavalcade

Around 400 people will be involved in this year's cavalcade.

38 floats will depart Longue Hougue at 1.30pm.

170 military vehicles will depart Vaugrat campsite at 2pm.

Around 60 vintage cars and 35 tractors will leave Pembroke car park at 2.10pm.

Pedestrians, bikes, and bands will lead them all from Salerie Corner at 2.30pm.

A static display of some of the Cavalcade participants will be held on  Albert Pier from 3.30pm until 6pm.

Seafront Entertainment

Children's activities will run along Crown Pier, with a vintage fair along the arm.

Older children are invited to use the Youth Commission's new mobile youth club at the bus terminus.

A historical reenactment of the Landing of Force 135 will take place on Albert Pier at 5.30pm.

Music and family activities organised by Guernsey Arts will run throughout the day at Castle Cornet.
