Jersey's new Health Minister says he will bring forward proposals for assisted dying 'without further delay'.
Deputy Tom Binet has been examining the timeframe for the legislation.
He has announced he will lodge a report and proposition to introduce assisted dying on 22 March.
He has agreed there should be an extended lodging period of nine weeks, to give time for States Members to consider the proposals.
Deputy Binet says this 'strikes the appropriate balance' because of the extensive consultation there has already been, and the fact that 'number of States Members are already calling for this legislation to be brought forward as soon as possible'.
It would mean politicians will debate and vote on the legislation on 21 May.
In November, the previous government published a review by three experts who had been considering the ethics of what Jersey is considering allowing.
If politicians approve the assisted dying proposals in May, it will take at least 18 months to draft the law.
Should the draft law get then get final agreement in the States Assembly, there would be a further 18 month implementation period before it would take effect.
