No injuries after car and outbuilding fire in Grouville

Jersey's Fire and Rescue Service was called to flames in an outbuilding that had spread to a nearby car.

Just after 6:20 pm on Monday (23 March), multiple calls were received to a fire at La Grande Route des Sablons, opposite La Rue de la Forge.

The blaze was in an outbuilding and had spread to a parked car.

At the height of the incident, 16 firefighters were present, along with three fire appliances and a duty officer.

Firefighters in breathing apparatus used jets to extinguish the flames, and the shed and the joining property were checked for people.

The service established that all were safe, and the person who attempted to fight the fire was treated at the scene by paramedics as a precautionary check.

The cause of the fire is currently being investigated, but it is not being treated as suspicious at this time.

Jersey Fire and Rescue Service has thanked the off-duty firefighter who initially raised the alarm, and the Police and Ambulance crews that assisted.

Islanders are reminded not to attempt to fight a fire, but to get out, stay out and call 999.
