Plans for a £230,000 revamp of a paved area next to Green Street car park have been pulled.
The Infrastructure Minister has withdrawn them and instructed officers to find ways the area can contribute to the government's Sustainable Transport Policy.
“When I saw the plans, I felt that more could be done. I will be bringing the Sustainable Transport Policy to the States next month, and I see this as an opportunity to add a piece of infrastructure which will support that policy." - Deputy Kevin Lewis, Infrastructure Minister
Deputy Lewis says he also wants to make the car park more accessible to people with wheelchairs and prams.
New plans are due to be brought back early next year.
The application for the 'plaza' drew heavy criticism from many islanders on social media and more than 60 formal objections. Many called it unnecessary spending.
