Alderney will get a Royal Visit on 15 December and over the weekend a new area of woodland will be planted out.
Homecoming Day is celebrated in Alderney like Liberation Day is in Guernsey and Jersey.
The 15 December 1945 is the day that those who left hurriedly in June 1940, returned to an island ransacked by the Occupying German forces.
Houses had no roofs and furniture had been burnt for fuel.
This 80th Homecoming is special, and Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh will visit the island.
It is already known that in the morning she will visit the Court, the home of the States of Alderney, as notices have been put up announcing road closures.
Tomorrow (13 December) a new area of woodland will be planted out on York Hill, overlooking the harbour, where the boat from England docked 80 years ago.
Caroline Gauvain from Visit Alderney wants volunteers to help plant the saplings:
"We're trying to encourage the community to come along and help plant a tree, a Homecoming Woodland.
"It's to create a tribute to the Homecomers who were absolutely amazing, and returned."
