Three Jersey gymnasts selected for national teams

Three young Jersey gymnasts have secured their places in the IGA Independent Gymnastics National Squad.

13-year-old Amalie Manton and Myla-Rose Barry, who's 11, are joining the prestigious Women's Artistic Senior Squad.

Meanwhile Jayden Berry, another 13-year-old, is getting set to join the men's side.

As part of the national team, the three up-and-coming Jersey sports stars will be training alongside the country's top gymnasts and will work with world-class coaches.

Up until now, the trio have been developing their talent at Regent Gymnastics Club.

Head Coach Julia Falle says she couldn't be prouder:

"I was actually very surprised when we received the email - it's fantastic. They've been put forward for the national squad on recognition of all the work they did last year in competitions - it's very, very good news."

This is the first time Jersey gymnasts have been invited to this particular national squad.

Julia thinks this will be beneficial not just for the athletes, but for the future of Jersey gymnastics:

"They'll be invited to various training camps and weekends training away with gymnasts all across the country. They'll be exposed to national coaches there, training with gymnasts and working together.

"It's great news for their future. I think what's going to happen now is its going to inspire other gymnasts to compete and take part in national competitions and then get recognised themselves for a national squad."

The trio's first training session will be on 9 March at the IGA National Training Centre in Preston.
