Jersey teenage sensation Filip Nowacki has won silver in the men’s 100m breaststroke at the Commonwealth Games.
The 18-year-old finished ahead of Adam Ramsay-Peaty, but was pipped to gold by Sam Williamson of Australia.
He said:
"I'm buzzing, electric, all those words.
"I'm very honoured to have seen that Jersey flag fly up, and I tried to take it in as much as I could whilst standing there; those moments don't come all the time, and they're over very quickly so I tried to take that in as best I could."
It’s Jersey’s first Commonwealth Games medal since Colin Mallett won gold in Auckland in 1990.
Nowacki takes on the 50m breaststroke this evening, and the 200m later this week, with confidence that he can secure more podium positions.
He'll be up against his idol Adam Ramsay-Peaty again, who he says is an inspiration:
"I've grown up watching him, and it's truly inspiring being almost on his side, and being able to race next to him."
