Second Wave Of E-Bike Vouchers Open

You can apply for a voucher towards the cost of a new e-bike again today (18 April).

It's the second round of applications.

In January, more than 1,800 people applied, prompting the government to double the number of available vouchers to 200.

Ministers have also increased the number of grants being allocated for the April ballot - with more than twice as many for e-cargo bikes.

Those who put their name down last time but weren't successful will have to apply again for the lottery-style draw.

The scheme is part of the government's Carbon Neutral Roadmap and will see the random selection process open up every three months throughout this year and 2024.

Vouchers of £300 for a standard e-bike and £600 for an e-cargo or adapted ecycle are being offfered, to encourage islanders out of their cars.

Climate Change Minister, Deputy Hilary Jeune says that transport is the biggest on-island source of carbon emissions.

"We’ve had great feedback from those who were successful in the first draw, telling us how their voucher gave them the nudge and help they needed to buy their e-bike, with others telling us they use theirs every day now.

Later this year, the sustainable transport team will be bringing forward an Island-wide cycling and walking infrastructure strategy, identifying key corridors that we’ll need to prioritise for investment over the next few years to make cycling as easy and safe as possible."
