Plans Unveiled For 150 Homes And A Café At South Hill

Plans have been unveiled to build 150 new homes and a café on the site of the former planning offices at South Hill.

The Jersey Development Company says the scheme is designed to achieve the highest environmental standards.

The plans include one, two, and three-bed apartments, a new landscape courtyard, and a redesigned and refurbished children's park.

First-time buyers would be able to pay the 10% deposit in instalments while the homes are being built.

The JDC says the aim is to enhance the surrounding area and improve pedestrian and cycle connectivity to the area, with the building sympathetically designed to embrace and emulate the local landscape.

A new competition is being launched to help design the parish-owned park, with children under 12 invited to share their thoughts on what their dream park would look like.

Architect firm FCBStudios won a tender to work on the scheme's design.

"South Hill is an unrivalled location, and as such, requires a very specific design response. We propose a carefully integrated series of landscape inspired buildings that maintain the openness of the site and provides exceptional views for the residents.  The buildings evoke the character of Mount Bingham’s granite rock face through their gravity, tonality and texture which is further enhanced by the extensively planted balconies. The existing listed building is retained within an exciting new courtyard space and is linked with the adjacent play park.

A consultation has been launched for people to give their feedback. It will close on the 14 May.

A planning application is due to be submitted later this year.
