The trial is underway in Jersey's Royal Court of Dylan John Pounds, who is accused of causing the deaths of Dean and Charlie Lowe.
The 29 year old has previously admitted two counts of causing death by careless driving.
Dylan Pounds has also pleaded guilty to failing to stop and report an accident on La Rue de Fauvic in Grouville in August 2023.
Dean Lowe (48) and his 11 year old son Charlie had been walking home when they were struck by a vehicle and killed.
The suspect was arrested in St Helier the following morning, and charged in January 2024.
At a court hearing in May, Dylan Pounds denied the more serious offences of causing the deaths of Dean and Charlie by dangerous driving and of causing death by careless driving while under the influence of drink or drugs.
He also denied one count of holding a telephone whilst driving.
The trial is expected to last eight days.
