Haute Vallée installs security fencing after knife incident

New security fencing has been installed at Haute Vallée school, after a former pupil was recently found on a campus with a knife.

He was sentenced to more than two years in youth detention.

The school said the fencing has been installed before getting planning consent, because it was 'critical to safety on the site'.

A retrospective application has now been lodged.

"We have submitted a retrospective application for installation of a new boundary perimeter fence. The purpose of the works is to secure the school perimeter and prevent unauthorised persons accessing the site.

"Recently a former pupil was found on the campus with a knife. The pupil was arrested and secured due to the diligence and bravery of the teaching staff.

"It was decided that the fence was critical to safety and security on the site and as a result was installed prior to obtaining planning consent.

"We are sure that your department will understand the urgency of the works and we will be happy to work with you to regularise the current situation.

"The fence is a standard metal grid used elsewhere on the site and in many other schools in the Island It blends well with the green hedgerows around the school. The product is Zaun Duo 8 perimeter fencing designed for schools. It is a green colour and comes in panels 2.4m high.

"We believe that the impact of the fencing on the area is minimal and that this can be seen on site."
