Jersey Post Suspends Delivery Of Leaflet

Jersey Post has suspended delivery of an unsolicited publication following several complaints from islanders.

The anonymous paper, ‘The Rock’, was delivered on Monday by Jersey Post to addresses in several parishes.

The so-called 'people-funded paper' includes the headlines 'the Nazification of the NHS' and  'medical research thoroughly corrupted' and doubts the effectiveness of vaccines and COVID tests.

It is similar in style and content to controversial UK paper, 'The Light', which sparked outrage by health and local authorities there after being posted through letterboxes.

'The Light' proclaims to be a 'truthpaper' exposing government corruption.

It also featured conspiracies about the likes of Bill Gates and George Soros, as well as adverts for ‘harmonising crystals’ to protect against radiation from mobile phone signals.

The content of 'The Rock' has drawn numerous complaints, both to Jersey Post directly, and on social media.

Senator Sam Mezec, says the island's postal workers have served us 'so well' during the pandemic but hopes Jersey Post learns from this 'misjudgment':

The company's former CEO, Kevin Keen, also commented - saying while he supports freedom of speech, Jersey Post will 'no doubt be looking carefully at what happened':

Others posted online calling the paper’s content 'shocking', 'scaremongering', and 'worse than a trashy online blog'.

Deputy Chief Minister, Senator Lyndon Farnham, says officials will be closely reviewing its content:

“It is concerning to hear that a publication with potential misinformation is in circulation on the Island. While I have not had the opportunity to review the publication in question, I will be working with officers to review the content. As ever, I would strongly urge Islanders to ensure that their information about COVID-19 comes from trusted, evidence-based, verified sources.”

A spokesman for Jersey Post says the company has suspended deliveries while an internal investigation is carried out:

“Jersey Post delivers several publications direct to island homes and businesses every day. This is a valuable service that supports a wide variety of organisations and is part of our universal service obligation. Any content or views expressed are those of the publisher, not Jersey Post, who are solely the delivery agent.

“On Monday 16 August, we began distributing a publication entitled The Rock, which we are aware has offended some islanders following complaints we have received today. As soon as we were notified of the issue, we immediately suspended delivery while we conduct an investigation.

“We recognise some of our customers may not wish to receive certain (or any) publications in their mail, and we have mechanisms in place to manage this, by contacting our customer services team.”

Details on opting-out of bulk mail deliveries can be found on Jersey Post’s website.
