Islanders asked for views on body image and masculinity

Surveys are asking about attitudes in the Channel Islands toward masculinity, gender discrimination and body image.

Island Global Research is collecting data from Jersey. Guernsey and the Isle of Man

The topics are ones that are big talking points in today's society, with public discussions about the definition of modern manhood - prompted by concerns about online communities and influencers who promote misogyny.

Discourse has increased since the Netflix series Adolescence and, more recently, the streaming platform's Louis Theroux documentary Inside The Manosphere.

IGR says the survey aims to determine how widespread people believe misogyny (hatred and discrimination of women) and misandry (hatred and discrimination of men) are in society.

Questions will include whether feminism negatively impacts men and ask about how men and women should behave in relationships.

Separately, IGR also has a survey about islanders' views on body image, weight loss and cosmetic surgery.

It wants to know whether people would consider using weight loss drugs and jabs, following a rapid rise in their popularity.  An estimated £1.6 million people in the UK are using weight loss drugs such as Wegovy or Mounjaro.

The questionnaire also covers attitudes to cosmetic procedures and asks how concerned people are about the way body image is represented online and in the media.

People can submit responses before 18 May at https://survey.islandglobalresearch.com/s3/views
