The production, which featured 20+ islanders as extras and Jersey-born actor Timothy Renouf in the role of Julian Wakefield, will include a car chase through St Helier and and jetski stunt in Bouley Bay.

Filming was also spotted a market pop up in the Royal Square involving a character shouting for a police officer to respond to the scene urgently.

Damien Molony (known for BBC drama 'The Split) is taking on the iconic Jim Bergerac role.

Alongside Timothy Renouf, the supporting cast consists of Zoe Wanamaker (My Family, Harry Potter) as Bergerac's mother-in-law and Philip Glenister (Life on Mars) as Arthur Wakefield.

Wanamaker's role will be a female equivalent of the Charlie Hungerford character played by Terence Alexander in the original 1980s BBC series, starring John Nettles and the famous detective.

While the high-speed car chases may give the impression Bergerac as we know it is back, Timothy Renouf has told us that fans should expect a slight shift in tone:

"The original was at a time in the 80s of glamour and its very fast cars and very of its time. Now we are updating it and it will be much darker, much moodier and much grittier."

Unlike the original, the new series will see one character-led murder mystery run across all six episode.

Producers have teased the reboot in these terms:

"Viewers will meet Jim Bergerac (Molony) as a broken man, grappling with grief and alcoholism following his wife’s recent death. His mother-in-law, Charlie (Wanamaker), is concerned Jim isn’t putting his daughter Kim first and, when a woman from a wealthy Jersey family is murdered, Jim must fight through his personal struggles to become the formidable investigator he once was.

"With a troublesome convict resurfacing from his past, Bergerac is required to call on his sharp investigative instincts and past successes to navigate the intricate family dynamics, and watchful eyes of the police force, in order to solve the case."

Visit Jersey says the series is a 'fantastic opportunity' to showcase the island on a global stage.

CEO Tricia Warwick hopes devoted fans of the original series and a new generation of viewers will want to visit the locations featured in the show.

"Beyond the excitement of filming, we have secured a highly beneficial agreement with the producers of the new Bergerac series, which will deliver lasting value to Jersey and our visitor economy.

Local businesses experienced a direct boost during production, and hundreds of islanders had the opportunity to appear on-screen as supporting artists (extras).

Additionally, the producers are investing in our local talent by training a cohort of Jersey apprentices, providing them with valuable skills and hands-on experience.

We are also pleased to have negotiated a stake in global distribution of the show in perpetuity, ensuring long-term benefits for Jersey.”
