Firefighters Tackle First Tower Roof Blaze

Firefighters have put out a fire at a business in First Tower. It’s thought to have been sparked by a commercial oven and extractor.

Several members of the public called 999 just before 11pm on Friday (4 February) to report that flames were blazing through the roof of a commercial complex in the First Tower area.

Initially, nine firefighters were deployed.

They were then joined by a specialist Ariel Ladder Platform, crewed by on-call firefighters.

At the height of the fire, 17 firefighters were on the scene.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the building with a hose reel and put out the fire in a commercial oven and flue on the ground floor.

Further crew used the aerial ladder to tackle the flames in the roof and stop them spreading.

Watch Commander Craig Channing has praised the quick-thinking of the occupants in evacuating the building and alerting emergency services.

No one was hurt.

The cause of the fire is now under investigation, although is not being treated as suspicious.
