Officials in Grouville are trying to find out how many people with parish connections need an affordable or retirement home.
A questionnaire is hoping to help the authorities work out the housing shortfall.
It is available online or from the Parish Hall.
Parish Constable John Le Maistre wants evidence of the demand for accommodation so it can be taken into account in the next Island Plan.
"I think everybody's aware that there is a housing shortage throughout the island. We are quite keen as a parish to find out what the demand would be for affordable housing from people who live in Grouville or who have Grouville connections."
The survey asks questions of those looking to buy or rent houses.
It also asks about people who would want to purchase a retirement property.
"We are interested to know if there are people who are living in big houses who are now retired and their family has left, and the house is too big for them - whether they would be interested in an affordable downsize home with all the amenities that would be suitable for a single person or a couple who is ageing."
