Guernsey Police say motorists parking at Bordeaux Harbour are breaking the law if they park on the new painted walkway.
Bordeaux has always been popular, but it's even more so, year round, now that sea swimming has taken off.
But people walking around the granite walled harbour have to do so right next to the traffic as there are no railings and no pavement.
In January, the Vale constables pushed for a 1.3 metre wide white line to be painted in this area, to act as a pavement. A plastic bollard was bolted into the tarmac, to warn motorists heading towards the Vale Castle to keep wide of the new walkway.
Now, cars have been seen flouting the law, and parking next to the harbour, on the 'pavement' and they've been spotted by Guernsey Police:
Local cyclist Keith Brown has also noticed cars parked on the pavement. He's not sure the white line is enough:
"If you want to improve safety you need to put in a proper pavement. Road safety measures don't tend to improve if they inconvenience motorists."
Guernsey Police warn drivers at Bordeaux, and elsewhere, that white lines indicating a pavement are exactly the same, in law, as a raised footpath.
