Guernsey students beat England's A level pass rate

Ladies College students celebrate A level success.

Guernsey students performed slightly better in A-Levels than their English peers.

Guernsey's overall A-Level pass rate (A*- E) this year is 99.2%.

This is slightly higher than England's 97.5%, and very similar to last year’s local results.

More than a quarter of Bailiwick students (28.3%) opened their results to A's and A*'s this morning.

Students at the Sixth Form Centre achieved a 98.9% pass rate, with 23% of grades at A* or A.

80% of grades collected at The Ladies College were A*-B, with 97% of the students who applied to university being accepted into a chosen setting.

Blanchelande College says it is celebrating a 100% A-level pass rate.

At Elizabeth College 89% of all grades were A* to C, 28% of results were A* or A.

The Education Committee President, Deputy Paul Montague, says he has seen more than thirty years of teaching and seeing envelopes being opened. He recognises the emotional impact this day can bring:

“What I'd say to every student collecting results is this: a grade is a stage on the journey, not the destination.

"The real achievement is everything that sits behind it, the times you kept going, the hours of coursework, the nerves you overcame to sit the exams themselves.

"Each Level 3 qualification represents a young person who has made a commitment to something challenging and saw it through to the end."
