Liberation Day hampers for Guernsey's wartime generation

Islanders who lived through World War Two can once again enjoy a mini Liberation Day hamper containing cake and Guernsey dairy products.

Islanders who lived through the German Occupation or were evacuated to the mainland will be gifted personal Liberation Day Hampers again this May.

The 500 boxes will contain:

  • Buttermilk cake
  • Guernsey milk
  • Pats of Guernsey butter
  • A Chocolate bar
  • A Guernsey biscuit
  • Guernsey cheddar

There'll also be a postcard sized imitation of an occupation ration card.

Deputy Sue Aldwell, from Education Sport and Culture, says the initiative, which launched last year, honours the sacrifice of the wartime generation.

She thanks the co-sponsors who've helped make it happen:

“I’d like to extend my gratitude to Collas Crill and Guernsey Dairy for making it possible once again for islanders who do not live in residential homes to receive such a lovely thoughtful token of our appreciation to help them get in the Liberation Day spirit.”

Family or individuals have until the end of the month to register their interest with the sponsor, Collas Crill: [email protected]

A separate initiative will provide hampers to those of the wartime generation living in care homes.
