Guernsey's Ladies' Pool reopens after pollution incident

Water quality tests 'excellent' at La Vallette Ladies' Pool.

The Ladies' Pool at La Vallette was closed to swimmers last week after a pollution incident.

Water from the drains of the changing room block was getting into the pool and tainting water quality.

Tobin Cook, who heads up Environmental Health and Pollution Regulation, says after working with Vive La Vallette, who run the cafe, he is satisfied that the drain problem is fixed:

"Two sea water samples have been taken from the pool while it’s been closed and both samples have met the ‘excellent’ standard.

"In addition, after drainage works took place, more dye testing has been carried out and no further escaped dye has been detected.

"Environmental Health officers will remain in contact with the team at the Bathing Pools about additional long-term protections being put in place."

Yesterday (8 September) the pool was emptied and the bottom cleared and it reopened earlier this morning.

Swimmers can monitor bathing water quality online at gov.gg/bwq
