Jersey is preparing for severe gales as Storm Austen is forecast to bring gusts of up to 80mph.

Jersey Met predicts winds will reach severe gale force nine from Thursday evening, continuing overnight into Friday.

  • DFDS is adjusting sailings and planning extra services between Jersey, France and the UK as strong winds threaten disruption. An additional high-speed return sailing between Jersey and St Malo is planned for 26 October, alongside an extra Stena Vinga sailing on the Portsmouth route on 25 October. Both are subject to weather and operational conditions. Departure times are also being adjusted to make use of suitable weather windows, while freight vessel Caesarea Trader is helping to keep supplies moving.

11:00am - Jersey Water will close Queen’s Valley Reservoir and Val de la Mare Reservoir from Thursday
afternoon (22 October) as a precaution ahead of Storm Austen

10:46am - Due to the severe weather conditions forecast as part of Storm Austen, all Active facilities will remain closed on Friday until 3:00pm

10:34am - Tiny Tots Toddler group at St Paul’s Church is cancelled tomorrow due to the storm

8:56am - The strongest conditions may not have arrived yet, but it was still very blustery overnight. Trinity's Honorary Police are urging drivers to avoid Rue de Chesnaie / Rue de la Monnaie if possible, with the heavy rain causing tricky conditions.

8:33am - Meals on Wheels will be delivering today, but no meal service on Friday
