Trekkers raise £25K for Dementia Jersey

Trekkers who took on the Avenue of Volcanoes in Ecuador's Andes Mountains have raised £25,000 for Dementia Jersey.

14 islanders took part in the four-day charity trek, scaling heights of 4,000 metres.

The team endured steep climbs and long days across the dramatic volcano-lined corridor.

One of them, Jacquie Butlin, said: “The trip to Ecuador was truly unforgettable. It was challenging in all the best ways, pushing me out of my comfort zone while surrounded by the most inspiring group of people.

"To be part of something so meaningful, raising funds for such an important cause, made the experience even more special. It’s a journey I’ll carry with me forever.”

Dementia Advisor Julia Foley also completed the trek:

“Stepping out of my comfort zone on Dementia Jersey’s trek led me across the beautiful scenery of Ecuador, sharing life experiences and making wonderful friends along the way. An incredible adventure and inspiration to keep on walking!”

The money will be used to support people living with dementia and their families.

Nadine Jagger, Fundraising and Communications, Dementia Jersey, has praised the group's determination.

"We’re very grateful for their dedication and generosity in taking on this challenge and raising such a fantastic amount for the charity.

"All money raised in Jersey stays in Jersey, and we couldn’t do what we do without the support of our community. Thank you to our trekkers and to everyone who sponsored them."
