Temporary fuel duty cut proposition withdrawn

A proposal to temporarily cut fuel duty in Jersey has been withdrawn.

Deputy Lucy Stephenson proposed it to help tackle the cost of living, and to help with spiralling costs that the conflict in the Middle East has exacerbated.

But she says she's been reassured by the Treasury Minister that the government 'is developing targeted measures as part of the forthcoming Budget' that's aimed at 'providing meaningful support with cost of living pressures.'

The budget is expected to be published later this month, and debated later this year.

The first States sitting following the summer recess gets underway tomorrow (8 September).

One debate that is set to go ahead is to ask the government to restore its full grant to the Social Security Fund from 2028 to protect the long-term health of the Island's public finances.
