‘Say what you see!’ Catchphrase legend Roy Walker heading to Jersey

Comedy legend and much-loved television presenter Roy Walker is heading to Jersey for one night only.

The original host of ITV’s Catchphrase will bring his unmistakable wit, entertaining stories and classic one-liners to the Freedom Centre in St Helier on Friday 30 October.

Roy presented Catchphrase from 1986 until 1999, becoming famous for phrases including “Say what you see” and, when contestants narrowly missed the answer, “It’s good, but it’s not right.”

His comedy career stretches back even further. Roy won the ITV talent show New Faces in 1977, achieving the highest mark ever awarded to a comedian on the programme, before becoming a familiar face on stage and television.

Now the Belfast-born entertainer is swapping Mr Chips and the familiar Catchphrase squares for an audience in St Helier.

The evening will also feature live music from Jersey-based Irish folk trio Anam Ceoil, making it a double bill of comedy, stories and traditional music.

And while we cannot promise a holiday, a speedboat or even one of Catchphrase’s famously baffling animated puzzles, a night in the company of one of television’s most recognisable entertainers sounds like a pretty good prize!
