Swimarathon raises £72,500 for inclusion charities

This year's Jersey Swimarathon has raised £72,527.77 so far, with money still coming in.

387 teams swam more than 22,500 laps of Les Quennevais Pool over five days.

The money will be shared between the Lions Club and 17 local charities that promote diversity and inclusion.

This year’s beneficiaries are:

Acorn Enterprises, Autism Jersey, Beresford Street Kitchen, Every Child Our Future, Family Nursing and Home Care, Freeda, Happy Heroes, Healing Waves, Jersey Childcare Trust, Jersey Eating Disorder Support, Les Amis, MND Association, Music in Action, Parkinson’s Jersey, Silkworth Group, Variety Club and Wet Wheels.

The Jersey Swimarathon has been an annual fixture in the island's fundraising calendar since 1972.

Teams taking part include those from local schools, swimming and sports clubs, charities, civil servants and family groups such as sisters Angie de Carteret and Pat Hingston who have swum in ever Swimarathon since it began.

Lions’ President Jane Rueb is delighted with the total so far:

"We also delighted that so many swimmers of all ages took part with, as ever, teams from schools, families and corporates telling us how much they enjoyed the event which was evident from the smiles on all their faces."
