More time in Jersey for French day-trippers

DFDS has secured an earlier departure time for its fast ferry sailings from St Malo.

The ferry company has been in negotiations with port authorities in St Malo for the sought-after 7.45am (6:45am GMT) departure slot.

It says talks have now concluded positively.

It means French visitors will be able to spend more time in Jersey, while also providing improved day-trip travel options for islanders travelling to France.

With sailing times now confirmed, DFDS says it is building confidence in projected passenger volumes to and from St Malo.

Visit Jersey Chief Executive Tricia Warwick says she is 'delighted':

“Earlier, sailings mean visitors can spend more time enjoying Jersey, so we are delighted that DFDS has secured the 7.45 am Saint Malo departure for its fastcraft services.

"This is an excellent outcome for Jersey’s connectivity with our neighbours in France, and makes the island more appealing for day-trip and short-break visitors.

“The new timetable also supports our efforts to grow inbound tourism from Brittany and beyond, which is a key priority for 2026."

Overall visitor numbers to Jersey are down by almost a fifth this year compared to 2024.
