John Nicolle (51) has been jailed for punching, kicking and throttling a woman in an attack that latest several hours.
He committed the violent and sustained assault last June.
Nicolle had admitted spitting at his victim and kicking the table, but said her injuries were sustained by a wardrobe falling on her head.
The court heard how he grabbed her with both hands around the throat, squeezing her neck for up to a minute.
She suffered bruising to her eye and the back of her head through being punched repeatedly. She was also kicked in the chest as she lay curled up in a foetal position on the floor.
A jury found him guilty in at trial in March, and the Royal Court has sentenced him to four years and three months in prison.
