The Grief Disco wants to create a 'cathartic', compassionate space for people to process grief through dance music, movement, and connection.
Jersey Hospice Care has created the event to give those who've lost loved ones a different kind of emotional space - where joy and grief can exist together without taking away from or forgetting a loss.
It says that after loss, people may struggle to access or engage with traditional support; they might just need spaces that feel human, informal, and accessible, or they might want to come back to their bodies.
The Grief Disco idea was founded by Georgina Jones and Leah Siân Davies in Wales in 2024, and is being brought to Jersey by Mary Le Hegarat, Lead Counsellor at the Community Bereavement Service.
She told Channel 103:
"She (Georgina) said her, her husband and a friend thought that dance would help them, and they booked a flight to Ibiza and danced, cried and grieved.
"She said she felt this sense of lightness afterwards; with movement and grief, we know that can be really helpful for some people.
"It's about the rhythm and the beat and being able to lose yourself a bit and let emotions naturally surface.
"If they laugh, they cry, that's fine, but it also allows joy and connection.
Grief Disco is happening on Saturday 3 October, 14:00 - 16:30, at Our House of Champions.
