Gas Reconnection Underway

The gas company has confirmed it is going ahead with reconnecting customers in Jersey from today.

Island Energy says the plant has been running 'as expected' for 24 hours.

It was turned on yesterday (11 October) for the first time since a software fault caused an island-wide outage six days ago.

"We are working to restore your gas supply as soon as possible. Our plant has been up and running as expected for the last 24 hours. We are moving forward with our gas supply restoration plans. As we’ve previously stated, this needs done to be a controlled way." - Island Energy statement.

IE says there are two phases.

Phase 1 applies to customers who need to be visited by an engineer. The firm says it knows who these customers are and they will get a letter, text message and email letting them know that an engineer will be restoring their supply.

"If customers are out when an engineer visits, they will receive a slip through their door asking them to book an appointment."

Households and businesses that do not receive notice of an engineer visit will be able to 'self-restore' in phase 2 when phase 1 is complete.

They will receive a letter and email with step-by-step instructions.

"We will inform customers when it is time to turn on their gas via letter, email, txt, through local media and on our website and social media channels."

IE says a further update will be issued at lunchtime today (12 October).

Around 4.500 thousand homes and businesses have been without hot water, heat or cookers since Saturday.

IE has said it hopes to have everyone back on by Sunday 15 October.
