Firefighters save spaniel from water at Tesson Mill

A lively Springer Spaniel had to be rescued by firefighters after chasing ducks into the water at Tesson Mill.

Seven year old Breeze got stuck, and needed crews using a rope and ladder to go in and get him.

Crews were called to St Peter's Valley at lunchtime on Wednesday (6 August) to be met by Breeze's worried owner and passers-by who had stopped to offer help.

One firefighter wearing a Personal Floatation Device (PFD) entered the water, tethered by a safety line.

JFRS said of the rescue:

"After one final lap following the ducks around the water’s edge  Breeze was safely secured by the firefighter and brought back to dry land, unharmed and still very much full of energy."

Jersey Fire and Rescue have joked that the ducks have form for leading dogs into difficulty, having attended a previous similar incident.

"We can't confirm, but we suspect they may have been part of the same group involved in a previous incident - led, of course, by Joyce: the known ringleader in local duck circles. Breeze may have simply been caught up in their latest plot!"

The Fire Service says pet-owners should never put themselves in danger to rescue their animal and should call emergency services for help.
