Extra taxi rank and more disabled parking spaces in St Helier

A new taxi rank has been created on the Esplanade and more Blue Badge spaces have been introduced in town.

The new rank opposite the entrance the Esplanade car park aims to serve the International Finance Centre, as well as the wider public.

Infrastructure Minister Andy Jehan says it addresses the need for one in a busy part of town, with high footfall from nearby hotels, offices and the bus station.

"It made sense to us to have a facility there. This is the opportunity we have seized put a taxi rank there so people can access the service that they want."

The taxi rank at Library Place has been made smaller. One space for waiting cars has been turned into bicycle parking and another into a disabled bay.

Three new disabled bays there will have a two hour maximum stay. Constable Jehan says that balances accessibility and availability:

" We want to ensure that as many people as possible can a use the facility. We felt a two hour stay was appropriate."

The new disabled spaces will be identified with blue paint, which the minister says has successfully raised more awareness of the bays.
