Condor Ferries CEO 'Steps Down'

The boss of Condor Ferries, John Napton, has stepped down after two and half years in charge.

His departure has been announced in a brief statement from the company.

It says Christophe Mathieu, CEO of Brittany Ferries, has been appointed interim CEO with immediate effect.

Russel Kew, Condor Ferries’ Executive Chairman, said:

‘We would like to thank John for his leadership over his time with the company, during which he oversaw the continuation of services during the pandemic and the introduction of our latest vessel, Condor Islander, last year. We all wish him well for the future."

Mr Napton was appointed in June 2021 to succeed Paul Luxon.

In mid-December, the ferry firm issued a statement addressing rumours about its finances.

Condor says Mr Mathieu is a long-term board member with 'outstanding experience in leading a channel ferry company'.

"Christophe possesses exceptional experience in ferry operations as CEO of Brittany Ferries and will provide strong leadership for Condor. He also knows our people, customers and the Islands well so it is very much business as usual."

He will lead the firm's bid to continue operating to the Channel Islands beyond March 2025, when the current operating agreements with Jersey and Guernsey expire.

"Condor believes it is the right operator, with the right vessels, to serve the Islands for many years to come."

Asked for more details about the circumstances of Mr Napton's exit, Condor said it would not be making any making any further comment at present.
