Jersey Zoo’s trustees will remain in post after surviving a vote of no confidence.
Durrell’s 10 trustees have kept their positions following a members' meeting of around 450 people.
The Extraordinary General Meeting was held at the Freedom Centre in St Helier this evening (2 May).
The resolution:
"Because the members have lost confidence in the ability of the Board of Trustees of Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust to protect and maintain the legacy of Gerald Durrell, the Board of Trustees should resign and an independent investigation should be carried out into all aspects of the current and recent management's running of the zoo."
Members of the ‘We Love the Zoo” group, who called the vote, were invited to make an opening and closing statement, as well as speak in the hour-long debate, on why they would like to see the trustees go.
In a show of hands the vote was overwhelmingly against the resolution.
The ballot showed 710 voted for and 1,985 voted against.
