Advice against swimming at Grève de Lecq is lifted

Swimmers are no longer being advised to avoid Grève de Lecq.

Latest tests show the seawater quality has returned to 'excellent'.

However, samples from the stream and outfall are still poor following very high E.coli levels detected earlier this month.

The bacteria can cause diarrhoea, stomach cramps and fever.

The circumstances of the raised E.coli levels are still being investigated.

The Infrastructure Minister told the States it was down to a partial blockage on the incoming sewer to one of the pumping stations.

Constable Andy Jehan said it had caused sewage to overflow and enter the surface water system that carries the water to sea.

Beach-goers are advised to avoid playing in the stream and not to let dogs drink from it.

Signage will be changed to reflect the new advice.
