32% Of GCSE Grades 7-9

The first students to sit GCSE exams since 2019 have collected their results, with Jersey's pass rate slightly lower than during Covid but higher than pre-pandemic levels.

Exams regulator Ofqual called 2022 a 'transition' year and warned students that they intended to bring grades down from the highs of the past two years to be more in line with pre-pandemic results.

Despite this, nearly a third (32%) of grades are 7-9 (A or A*).

81.6% of GCSEs/IGCSEs are 4-9 (C and above).

These results are higher than England and Guernsey.

36 pupils sat IGCSEs using the A* to G system. 27.8% got A* or A and 55.6% got C and above.

Schools across the island opened from 9am for pupils to find out how they have done.

This was the first year since 2019 that teenagers in Year 11 have sat the exams because of Covid.

For the past two years, grades have been based on teacher assessments.

At Victoria College, 43% of grades awarded are 7-9 (A-A*)  and 94% got 9-4 (A*-C)

"I am delighted that our Year 11 students have today received an excellent set of results and I warmly congratulate them their efforts over what has been a difficult two years.

Academic results are very much a team effort, and these results are testament to not only the hard work of the students, but also to my dedicated and caring staff for their fantastic academic and pastoral assistance to the Year 11s, and of course to our wonderful parental body for their ongoing support.

Within the headline figures are many individual success stories and these GCSE qualifications will set up our students superbly for their next steps, whether that is to join us in our Sixth Form or to pursue other educational or career pathways. I am hugely proud of each and every one of our Year 11s." - Dr. Gareth Hughes, Headteacher.

Beaulieu School says just under 40% of its results were Grade 9-7 and there has been double the number of Grade 9s compared to 2019.

“We strive to help every child in our care reach their full potential, wherever their area of interest may lie. I am delighted that we have seen such strong results for our GCSE and BTEC students, despite the continued challenges of Covid-19, and I’m particularly thrilled for those who have more than exceeded expectations.”

Hautlieu is reporting a 95% 9-4 pass rate with more than 60% Grades 9-7.

"We were already proud of this group of Hautlians and of course we feel that even more acutely today with the release of an outstanding set of GCSE results.  Progressing into GCSE study following a significantly disrupted two plus years due to Covid was an unenviable task but our students have risen to the challenge with their characteristic good humour, ambition and determination.

Despite the exam regulators warning of a significant decrease in grades from the last two years of teacher assessed GCSE outcomes our students have continued to secure fabulous performances." - Nick Falle, Headteacher.

JCG Principal Carl Howarth has praised his students'  resilience and tenacity.

"It is important to remember that this cohort was in the final stage of Year 9 when we went into the confusion of lockdown. Our students and staff had to dig deep and pivot quickly to new ways of doing things especially during their Year 10, the first year of their GCSE study.

Their shared approach and ultimate success of online and in-person learning was critical. This meant that no learning has been lost. Our students and staff have shown great agility in overcoming any obstacles and have thrived. These stellar results clearly demonstrate the depth of care, belief and academic excellence; our students have shown what can be achieved with positivity in the face of adversity."

The school is reporting that 81% of all grades were 9-7, with almost a third being the highest mark.

JCG pupils jump for joy at their grades.

Les Quennevais School says its 2022 class have achieved a record-breaking set of results.

Children and Education Minister, Deputy Inna Gardiner, has congratulated all students who've received their results.

"Jersey students have once again achieved considerably higher than their English counterparts, with 8.6 percentage points higher graded 4 and above, and 6.0% points higher at graded 7 and above.

Their achievements are even more impressive considering the challenges they have faced over the past two years, and I would also like to thank all of the teachers and parents, who have continued to support our young people through a difficult and disruptive period."

The Skills Jersey Careers Advice and Guidance Team is open on weekdays between 8:30am and 5pm on 01534 449440 for any students who want to discuss their options.
