Move To Level One Paused For A Fortnight

Health experts have recommended that Covid-19 be monitored for another fortnight, after significantly easing restrictions at the start of this month. That included reopening the borders.

Jersey's government is planning to ease coronavirus restrictions further from the first week of August.

The island will stay at Level 2 of its safe exit strategy for two more weeks.

It was revealed last week that a move to Level 1 was being considered by health experts and ministers.

The STAC committee has recommended that Covid-19 activity be monitored for another fortnight because of the significant easing of restrictions at the start of this month - which included opening the borders and pubs and allowing people from different households to sit at the same table in restaurants, as long as they stay one metre apart.

Another meeting will take place on the 3rd of August. The government says as long as there are no significant changes to the low levels of Covid, they will then advise moving to Level 1.

"Following the advice from STAC, Ministers have decided to pause in Level 2 of the Safe Exit Framework, while we undertake additional monitoring to ensure that when we begin to move into and through Level 1, we do so as safely as possible.

"The shared aim is to begin to move into Level 1 from within the first week of August. Level 1 changes will be introduced in phases, so that as an Island we continue to progress safely through the Safe Exit Framework. For now, however, we remain in Level 2, and Islanders and businesses should continue to follow the current Level 2 guidelines until they receive further update." - Deputy Richard Renouf, Health Minister.
