St Pier says States put investigation before his experience in P&R seat vote

Deputy Gavin St Pier says public perception, not who is best for the job, influenced decisions.

Deputy Gavin St Pier says he is 'neither surprised nor disappointed' by not being able to regain his seat in the Policy & Resources Committee.

The ex-Treasury Lead resigned from the senior committee earlier this month to see if he had States backing, following a police investigation into harassment allegations, which he denies.

He told Island FM:

"So long as there is an ongoing live investigation, the States by majority felt that was the most important consideration, rather than experience."

He also said that 'one could very much see it as an opportunity' that he wasn't re-elected.

Policy and Resources' preferred candidate, Deputy Niles got the seat in the top committee, with 23 votes.
