One person pulled from the water as fishing boat sinks off Sark

A maritime safety investigation has been launched after a boat sunk in Sark waters.

Around midday yesterday (30 September), Guernsey Coastguard received a call from a vessel off Sark’s west coast, reporting that a fishing boat had sunk and one person had been recovered from the water.

The St Peter Port Inshore Lifeboat brought the casualty back to Guernsey, where paramedics confirmed he had not suffered any significant injuries.

The 5.5-metre fishing vessel was later partially refloated by commercial divers and towed to St Peter Port.

This morning, Guernsey Ports used a crane to lift the vessel from the water.

As the incident involved a commercial fishing boat, the Chief Inspector of Marine Accidents has ordered a full maritime safety investigation to establish the cause and help prevent a recurrence.
