Many Medal Opportunities On 'Fantastic Friday'

Joshua Bonsall and Bradley Le Noury won gold in the indoor pairs.

Guernsey goes into the last day of the games with 126 medals and looks set to easily beat its 2003 total, with plenty of scope for more wins today.

Team Guernsey is looking to extend its dominance of the Island Games on the last day of competition that the organisers are calling 'Fantastic Friday.'

Guernsey has 126 medals so far, 44 gold, 43 silver and 39 bronze.

Much of the action focuses on the St Peter Port sea front. There, Guernsey will be looking for podiums places in the half marathon, the cycling criteriums and the mixed triathlon relay.

Many thousands are expected to watch the action, with the rainy, windy weather unlikely to deter the crowds that have flocked to all the events. Last night (13 July), spectators had to be turned away from Beau Sejour as it reached capacity.

Gold for the women's MTB XC team

Guernsey's cyclists had another medal winning day with gold for the women's cross country team and individual silver for James Roe in the XC at L'Ancresse. The ladies say it's down to years of training:

"Ecstatic. We worked worked so hard for that, for two, three years, it's been a long time coming."

In the last swimming events, Ronny Hallett took another gold, this time in the men's 200 metre breaststroke, while Orla Rabey won the women's 200 metre butterfly and there was a team gold in the women's 4x100 metre medley relay.

Triple world champion bowler Alison Merrien has another gold medal, this time beating husband Ian in the singles final. He says they're used to facing each other in competition and in practise:

"We've played against each other a few times before. We're always in contact so it doesn't feel so different to us as it does to others."
