La Societe Guernesiaise President, Roy Bisson, says plans to build on the Vauquiedor field are a 'disgrace.'
Policy and Resources has filed outline planning permission for 66 one bedroom apartments in a three and four storey accommodation block.
It would sit on the field and valley between the PEH and the Vauquiedor entrance.
This site was the subject of a political petition brought against any development in July 2022.
The requete, as it's known, was amended and passed, but crucially to allow development, in return for a land swap where another site would be turned into a green space.
La Societe's president Roy Bisson disagrees with building on the field:
"We just don't want them to do it. There's plenty of space, old greenhouse sites, and various other things which may require planning changes, but at least those are reasonable planning changes, but this is a disgrace."
Policy and Resources says that healthcare workers want accommodation on-site. Roy Bisson questions why so many parking spaces are associated with the application:
"One of the big reasons for having accommodation there is that they can walk to work very quickly. And yet they've got a huge area of car parking on it. Ah hello, what's going on here?"
Mr Bisson wants La Societe's members to write to the Planning Authority about the application, but says whether they object to it or support it is their decision, there's no 'party whip.'
"Numbers count when applications are made. I think that this is one of those occasions when we can encourage our 1,000 members to participate, one way or the other."
The public consultation period runs until 10 January 2023. All submissions must be made by email or letter.
