Guernsey's Market Street Post Office To Close

This will be the fifth post office closure in the Channel Islands since October last year.

The Channel Islands Coop and Guernsey Post have announced that The Market Street Post Office will shut on 12 April 2024.

This will be the first closure in Guernsey, following four in Jersey less than 6 months ago.

Channel Islands Coop CEO Mark Cox says the company recognises 'the vital role post offices play within local areas' but the closure is a joint decision.

Staff will be offered alternative roles within the business, so redundancies have been avoided.

Guernsey Post's existing counters at the Co-Op stores in St Martin's and St Sampson's will also start operating reduced hours from 15 April:

Monday - Friday: 9am - 3pm

Saturday: 9am – 12pm

CEO of Guernsey Post Boley Smillie says St Peter Port will still have access to a good post office:

“It is essential that we retain a Post Office in town for the benefit of our local community.

Because our arrangement with CI Coop in Market Street is ending, we are going to relocate, extend and improve our retail counter within the Tourist Information building, which will provide the full suite of postal services.”

PO Boxes at Market Street will remain in Market Street temporarily while an alternative solution is sourced.

Guernsey recently saw a post office relocate to the Nocq Road shop, as the Locale on the Bridge closed down.
