1.3 million people tracked a flight from Guernsey to Manchester.
Guernsey's airline, Aurigny, says it is a 'mystery' why more than a million people used Flightradar24 to track an 'everyday flight' from Guernsey to Manchester last night (25 August).
The 271-mile journey is routinely made by Aurigny’s ATR 72-600 on Monday evenings, making yesterday's takeoff unremarkable.
Yet it still became one of the most-watched flights in the world.
Flightradar24 shared their confusion on social media, saying: “This is the most interested anyone has ever been in an ATR 72. And no, we have no idea why.”
ATR First Officer, Tamer Birsen, who was piloting the aircraft, was confused by the attention.
“For us, it was just a routine flight - Guernsey to Manchester is a trip we know well.
"After we climbed out of beautiful Guernsey, we were later welcomed with stunning, clear views over the south coast of England, past Portsmouth and then London.
"To discover afterwards this curious news that over 1 million people had been there watching with us was a real surprise - it's great to have our 15 minutes of fame.
"Guernsey is a beautiful place, and it’s definitely well worth a real-world visit.”
