After a decade of fundraising, the foundations are being laid for an education centre for students with learning difficulties.
For years, Le Murier, near St Sampson's High, has wanted to develop a series of buildings where students with additional needs could learn practical skills to prepare for life after school.
Project leaders say the transformation of the education project, the pandemic, and the significant funding required to bring the vision to life have delayed the project till now.
Outdoor learning coordinator Gary Dovey says The Village, which will be located in a field behind the school, will build confidence for independent living and improve students' employability.
"If you think of what you need to do in your house, like hanging out the washing, making a bed, putting stuff away in a fridge, or mowing the lawn, there is nowhere in school to do that.
"All that sort of stuff that we all take for granted, some of our students, not all of them, would find quite difficult - but with some practice, they can get it.
"Some need a bit of help, some need a lot of help, some will always need help, but if we can chip away a little bit and make those young adults' lives a bit more independent, they will have a better life and they won't be as needy on the community or social services."
Spades are in the ground now, and the first two cabins are due to be up and running for Easter 2026.
Gary says ideally they will have a final fundraising push to enable the whole project to be completed before the next academic year.
So far, they have raised £900,000, but they need to double this amount.
Gary says The Village will eventually be open to other groups, including Le Rondin, specialist organisations like Autism Guernsey and Headway, as well as young people already in the workforce.
Equipment will also be in place to enable young people to explore nature, grow vegetables, and study pollinators.
