Artwork exhibition celebrates Guernsey architecture

More than 150 islanders, aged 8 to 80, spent the summer of 2025 sketching local architecture.

The St Peter Post Sketch Club is bigger than ever, with more than 150 islanders taking part last summer.

The group is celebrating their creativity with a 10-week exhibition at the George Crossan Gallery, upstairs at the Market Buildings.

Islanders are invited to go and see the 250 interpretations of local buildings, streets and squares.

Club leader Charlie Hodder says the collection is impressive.

"It is wonderful to see them (artworks) all together, you get a little picture of all the locations, hopefully you capture a little bit of the spirit of St Peter Port.

"We typically get between 20 and 40 people coming to any one session, and we went to twenty-two locations this year (2025).

"When we get to a location, sometimes I will give some historical facts, then suggest some interesting buildings, and people disperse and go and draw for forty-five minutes to an hour.

"Then we go to a pub or other public space to have a chat, and we hold up our drawings and chat about them.

"The purpose of the club is to enjoy drawing, learn a bit about the town and socialise."
