Mix of heavy rain and sun expected next week ahead of warmer temperatures

A mix of heavy rain, sun, and occasional showers is forecast for next week, with warmer temperatures on the weekend.

Rain is expected to move across southern and eastern England on Monday, with spells and scattered showers forecast elsewhere, the Met Office said.

It will stay unsettled and blustery on Tuesday and Wednesday, with some sunshine and heavy showers, before more widespread rain is set to hit the country on Thursday. The weather is set to remain a mixture of sunshine and showers on Friday.

For the weekend, the Met Office predicts the wettest conditions will be in the northwest, with more in the way of drier interludes in the southeast. Strong winds could also affect parts of the UK at times, especially the northwest.

Temperatures in the working week will range between 17C and 18C in the south, and around 16C in the north, then over the weekend it is expected to be in the low 20s in the south, Met Office forecaster Craig Snell said.

The South East could even see highs of 24C or 25C over the weekend, with temperatures in the high teens in the north, he predicted.

The rising temperatures over the weekend "could potentially feel markedly warmer", Mr Snell said.

He added: "There are hints as we go into the weekend we may well see a slight warming up.

"It's hinting at 24C for London on Saturday, at least into the low 20s, maybe mid-20s across the South East."

But the warmer weekend temperatures could be accompanied by some showers or longer spells of rain at times, the Met Office warns.

It will monitor the bands of rain arriving on Monday and Thursday, but it is not currently expecting to issue any weather warnings.
