A man has appeared in court charged with the rape of a teenage girl in a Glasgow park.

A 16-year-old girl was attacked near to the Moongate in Springburn Park on the evening of Friday 26 June.

Police Scotland said the teen was approached by a man who pushed her into the bushes before carrying out the serious sexual assault.

At the time, Detective Inspector Sharon McPeake said: "This was an extremely shocking incident on a young victim who continues to receive dedicated support from specialist officers."

Hamid Wali, 36, was later arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

The suspect appeared before Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday, where he made no plea to three charges.

He has been accused of two counts of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner, alongside a separate charge of rape and sexual assault.
