What will Battle of Flowers 2026 look like?

Battle of Flowers organisers are taking on feedback that this year had more of a 'community feel' as they consider the future of the summer parade and start planning for 2026.

A scaled-down Battle of Flowers - born out of necessity - still managed to capture the hearts of islanders.

The free parades through town last Friday and Saturday were watched by thousands, many of whom have since said they preferred the format:

Got to carry on like this each year, all the children loved being in such close contact & collecting paper confetti.  A great success.

Well done - I am surprised to say that it actually looks like it was more community spirited than on The Avenue?!! And I am an old die hard of the old style BoF - I wasn’t there but it looks like it went really well!!!

The atmosphere was brilliant, as was the interaction with characters and people on the floats. So much better than The Avenue.

The parades - and the floats - were smaller this year to keep the tradition alive after fears the 2025 parades would have be cancelled completely because of big financial losses accrued last year.

I have in the passed said the battle of flowers had, had its day but it looks like it could be a huge resurrection instead.

Well done organisers I look forward to 2026, please don’t change the format 👏👏🫶

Steve Bouchard, Vice Chair of the Battle of Flowers, told Channel 103 that, whilst they are keen to get back to building the famous big floats, there are things to be learnt from this year:

"It was a fantastic event. The people turned out in their numbers and had a fantastic time.

"We would very much like to take it back onto Victoria Avenue, and that way we could bring back the 45ft spectacular floats that people love to see.

"We are looking at maybe narrowing it down to just one side of the Avenue, which would bring people closer in, and also lengthening the parade.

"We strongly believe it has to be free - it was free this year and I think we have to move in that direction.

"It brings the people in, it gives the public and the island something, and it generates a fantastic atmosphere."

Although it was free, spectators Channel 103 spoke to along the route said, had there been donation buckets as part of the parade, they'd be 'more than happy' to contribute money to charities or organisations.

Steve said:

"We were too late to look at collection points this year, but it's something we will be looking at for future parades."
