Tributes Paid To Minister's Husband

The Bailiff and the Chief Minister have led tributes to Kevin Rogers, the husband of Jersey's External Relations Minister Deputy Philip Ozouf, who has died.

The Bailiff, Sir Tim Le Cocq, announced the sudden passing of Mr Rogers in a short statement to States members this morning (16 February):

“It is with deep sadness that I share the news of the passing of Mr Kevin Rogers, the husband of Deputy Philip Ozouf.

On behalf of the States Assembly, I would like to express my condolences to Philip at this incredibly difficult time.

Our thoughts are also with Mr Rogers’ family and close friends at this time, and we ask that their privacy is respected, as they come to terms with his sudden loss.”

The Chief Minister, Deputy Kristina Moore, said 'words cannot fully express the shock and deep sadness I feel for Deputy Ozouf at this time'.

My thoughts and prayers are with Philip and all of Kevin’s family and friends.

My husband and I had got to know Kevin well and we will cherish our memories of him dearly.

He will be remembered as an incredibly kind man, a loving husband, and a devoted teacher.”

Mr Rogers taught at the City of London School.  Headmaster Alan Bird has paid this tribute:

“All of us at City of London School are shocked and deeply saddened by this news.

Kevin was a loyal and hugely respected teacher at the school through the last 16 years, inspiring in his pupils a love of Chemistry.

His commitment to the school was palpable to all who knew him, and his warmth and empathy were so greatly valued by pupils and staff alike.

We will all feel this loss most keenly. The thoughts of us all are with Philip, and with Kevin and Philip’s family and friends.

Deputy Ozouf has been on government business visiting the Gulf states this week.

He has attended the 10th World Government Summit, at the invitation of the United Arab Emirates and had meetings with representatives from Bahrain and Qatar.

The deputy asked for complete privacy at this sad time.
